Biography
The rolling stones have been making records together for almost 50 years now having first gotten together in London way back in 1962. The original line up consisted of Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts. Mick and Keith are still there to this day along with other current band members Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts. Other members to have come and gone over the years include Dick Taylor and Mick Taylor. Jagger and Richards have been the creative driving force behind the band having written the majority of the songs on each record since the mid sixties.
Sales of their records exceed 200 million copies making them one of the greatest selling recording artists of all time. No greatest all time list could be taken seriously without placing the stones somewhere near the top. Not many bands can boast 8 consecutive number 1 records in the US - they are a living lesson of consistency as well as longevity to the young pretenders that have come and gone over the years. The history of the band serves as testimony not only to the musical genius of those involved, but also the level of friendship required to keep together and continue to drive on a group of individuals through the volatile world of rock and roll.
